Volunteer Spotlight: Carol Ketterman

One of the most inspiring aspects of our work is witnessing the powerful connections made between volunteer tutors and the students they work with.

Today, we are shining a spotlight on Communities In Schools volunteer Carol Ketterman, who is sharing why she loves being a tutor and why she is looking forward to returning for the 2022-2023 school year.

“Because you see the same kids every week, you get to know each child,” says Carol of her experience as a tutor. “You get to know them. You get to love them all.”

“All children are smart, and a lot of these kids don’t know that about themselves. I tried to communicate that to them,” Carol says. “They need to know how smart they are.”

Ellie says, “Carol has been a game-changer for ECRA students! Carol cares deeply for each of the students she tutors. She respects students, encourages them, and believes in them. She invests in their futures, asking about their career goals and researching information on the education they'll need.”

“I was so honored to work with Carol!” Ellie adds.

You really can make a difference. Not just in the children that you work with, but in their families,” Carol notes. “I’m so looking forward to next school year.”
