announces our new Board President
Communities In Schools of New Mexico (CIS) announces the appointment of Edward Tabet-Cubero as our new Board President, and we thank Carl Luff for his dedication and service in this leadership role over the past two years. The board provides invaluable guidance to help carry out our mission to surround students with a community of support, removing obstacles to learning.
“I am honored to support the committed staff and board of Communities In Schools of New Mexico in this new volunteer role,” comments Tabet-Cubero. “Our New Mexican children are just as capable as their peers anywhere in the country, and CIS helps students demonstrate their fullest potential by connecting them to the supports they need in order to overcome a myriad of obstacles they may face.”
Currently the executive director for the Learning Alliance of New Mexico, Edward Tabet-Cubero has over 20 years of experience in the education and nonprofit sectors, including having served as the executive director of the NM Center on Law and Poverty and associate director of Dual Language Education of New Mexico. Edward has promoted educational equity for diverse learners his entire career. He has authored multiple publications as well as policy proposals related to bilingual education and teacher preparation, and has served as an expert witness for the New Mexico Legislature. He is active in the community where he serves on various education and non-profit boards all focused on improving outcomes for New Mexico’s children.
Communities In Schools of New Mexico new board slate includes: Timothy Mitchell as Vice President, Stephen Gaber as Treasurer, and Rachel White, Ph.D. as Secretary. Other board members include: Robert Apodaca, Bill Feinberg, Carmen Gonzales, Ph.D., Barbara Gudwin, newly appointed Todd Lovato, Carl Luff and Dion Silva. CIS would also like to recognize Joyce Idema for her 15 years of service and continued support of CIS, as her term on the board recently came to a close.
