A child who comes to school hungry cannot concentrate and learn adequately. Countless studies have revealed the devastating impact hunger and poor nutrition have on a young person’s health and ability to succeed in school. Sadly hunger is a reality in Santa Fe; an astounding number of our kids do come to school hungry.

At Communities In Schools of New Mexico we work relentlessly to keep our students from suffering poor nutrition by providing fresh, healthy food through our weekly fresh food distributions to our families in need, as well as distributing nutritional snacks during the school day. Working with our amazing partner the Food Depot, our CIS site-coordinators distributed 121,000 pounds of perishable food during the last school year.

Keeping our children physically and mentally healthy and on the path to graduation must be a community priority. It is certainly a priority at Communities in Schools. Our objective is to remove any and all poverty related barriers that impede students’ ability to focus and succeed. Please join us to support our Santa Fe children!
